As a consumer in today’s society, we have an unlimited
amount of products and services to spend our money on. Whether you are
interested in sporting goods, cooking classes or dog shampoo, you must do
your research. Money allows us the option to try many things, like services
and products- but what if you were able to experience the product or service
prior to making the big purchase or commitment. A sample of what is to
come, you may say, this would arm the consumer with the confidence going
into the purchasing situation. It is not widely known, but many companies
large and small will grant this privilege to a potential client, and or
customer.
In good faith, may companies realize that the long term
benefit of extending a free sampling of their product may in fact pay off
ten fold down the line. A customer for life far outweighs the initial loss
a company may feel when handing over their product free of charge. An
example both large and small may best be seen in the automobile industry as
well as the cosmetics industry. How many people would feel comfortable and
confident when purchasing a car if they were unable to go for a test drive?
There are some car companies now that will even expand your traditional 10
minute test drive to a 24 hour driving experience. Now, think on a much
smaller scale, but most woman truly need to see a cosmetic product on their
skin before buying it. A large number of cosmetic companies spend endless
amounts of money on packaging and circulating samples in an attempt to
create buzz surrounding their newest or latest miracle product.
In reality, there are far more areas within our
society that cash in on the notion of ,free samples equal more business, for
example, think about the local health club. In most cases the potential
client is asked to sign a one to three year contract with the gym, in
addition to paying a registration fee. Unfortunately, it’s difficult for
most people to honor a one to three year commitment with a loving partner,
now try to uphold that commitment with a health club?! Before signing over
the next three years of your life, be sure to negotiate an extended free
trial period, or “free sample” of their gym. Most health clubs will allow
this, but for the best rate try to deal directly with the manager.
Lawn and pool services, grocery stores, even
pharmaceutical companies will provide the consumer with a free sample for
their product or service. In fact, be weary of those who are unable or
unwilling to provide a free sample. This could be a good indication that
this is a company that is difficult to work with or is unable to negotiate
on their service prices. The most important piece of advice, aside from
seeking a free sample, is that fact that you have to do your research before
settling on a final product or service, and remember that the squeaky wheel
gets the oil. Be sure to speak up for what you want, and cover all of your
bases before signing on the dotted line.
